CAROLINE WOZNIACKI RETURNS TO THE COURT FOR THE MUTUA MADRID OPEN VIRTUAL PRO

 

Caroline retired from tennis three months ago after she played her last professional match at the Australian Open, however that was short lived as it was time to return to the court … on Playstation 4’s Tennis World Tour game. Caroline was one of the final participant announced this week for next week’s Mutua Madrid Open Virtual Pro event, which takes place from April 27-30

The former No. 1 has showed her enthusiasm about the idea of playing online. “I’m very excited about playing,” she said. “I’m looking forward to showing off my skills with a PS4 controller and I can’t wait for my first match!”

The Virtual Pro consists of two 16-player draws – one from WTA and one from ATP. Both will include prize purses in which the champion will choose an amount to donate to tennis players currently suffering economically due to the coronavirus pandemic. There will also be a series of benefit matches featuring content creators in the gaming world challenge professional tennis players to raise funds to help those affected by COVID-19.

The tournament concludes Thursday, April 30.

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI’S FINAL MATCH WITH SERENA WILLIAMS HAS BEEN POSTPONED

(April 9, 2020) – After announcing her retirement in December, Caroline Wozniacki also announced she would play a final exhibition match against her long-time friend Serena Williams, however that match has been postponed due to the current Coronavirus outbreak. The former No. 1 played her final professional tournament back in January at the Australian Open, which is where she won her first Grand Slam title in 2018.

The exhibition match against Williams was scheduled to take place in Caroline’s native country of Denmark on May 18. The match was to be dubbed, “The Final One.”

Caroline wrote on her Instagram Tuesday that the match would be postponed and stated, “”the safety and health of everyone is most important.” She added shortly after that tickets already purchased “will still be good, once we pick a new date.”

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI APPEARED ON THE MEN IN BLAZERS SHOW, DISCUSSED HER LIVERPOOL FANDOM

Recently-retired tennis star Caroline Wozniacki appeared last week on Men In Blazers on NBC Sports Network, a soccer show hosted by Roger Bennet and Michael Davies. Caroline is a well documents Liverpool fan, and on the show, the former No. 1 discussed her love for the team and how she would celebrate if they won the title.

“I’m definitely going to be that annoying person,” Caroline stated on how she would celebrate. “If I’m lucky enough to get tickets, I’m going to be there against Chelsea.” You can see the full clip below.

Caroline announced her retirement late last year, and played her final match at the Australian Open where she picked up two victories in the first and second rounds. This will not be the last time we see Caroline on the court, as she will be competing against her long-time friend Serena Williams in an exhibition in May. CAROLINE WOZNIACKI PLAYS FINAL MATCH OF HER PROFESSIONAL CAREER AT AUSTRALIAN OPEN

(January 23, 2020) – After announcing her retirement late last year, 30-time singles winner and Grand Slam champion Caroline Wozniacki played the last match of her career at the Australian Open. She picked up two victories in the first and second rounds over Kristie Ahan (6-1, 6-3) and Dayana Yastremska (7-5, 7-5) before being eliminated in the third round by Ons Jabeur, which ended her final tournament in Melbourne.

It was an emotional moment for Caroline after the match as she received a standing ovation from the fans. She then made her way around the court after to say farewell to the crowd. It was a fitting away for Caroline to go out at the Australian Open as she won her first Grand Slam there back in 2018. The emotion continued as Caroline went to social media to express her gratitude for the fans’ reaction.

“Wow, what a ride its been! From a little girl with a big dream, to this moment, standing on the court today living out my tennis dream one last time, in front of the world,” Caroline said. It has been everything I could ever have hoped for! The farewell I got today was absolutely incredible.”

Although Caroline is retiring, this will not be the last time we see her on the court. The former World No. 1 will duel against her long-time friend Serena Williams in May in an exhibition, which is being dubbed, “The Final One.” The match will take place in Caroline’s native of Denmark.

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI REACHES ASB CLASSIC SINGLES SEMIFINAL; MAKES DOUBLES FINAL WITH SERENA WILLIAMS

(January 13, 2020) – After announcing last month she will retire after the Australian Open, Caroline Wozniacki took the court for the first time in 2020 at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. Caroline turned in great performances in Auckland by reaching the singles semifinal and the doubles final with long-time friend Serena Williams.

Caroline squared off against Paige Mary Hourigan in Round of 32 and defeated her 6-1, 6-0 before meeting Laura Davis in Round of 16. Caroline would come away with a win (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) against Davis which earned her a spot in the quarterfinal against Julia Goerges. Caroline defeated Goerges 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 15 minutes to advance to the semifinals. Caroline never lost a serve in the match, saving all three break points she faced. Awaiting Caroline in the semifinal was Jessica Pegula, whom she would ultimately fall to preventing a third trip to the ASB Classic final.

Although Caroline did not make the singles final, she did reach the doubles final with Serena Williams. Caroline and Serena coasted to the doubles final before meeting Asia Muhammad and Taylor Townsend. Muhammad and Taylor defeated the accomplished team of Caroline and Serena by the score of 6-4, 6-4. The doubles final marked Caroline’s final appearance in Auckland.

After the match, Caroline expressed her gratitude for Serena during an on-court interview. “Serena, thank you so much for playing doubles with me. It’s been so much fun. I think my only regret in tennis is that we didn’t do this earlier,” Caroline said. Caroline with follow by saying goodbye to Auckland.

“I also really want to thank all the fans who have come out here every single year and the ones who are here for the first time,” said Wozniacki. “Thank you so much for supporting me and us throughout this whole tournament, you guys make it so special for us and that’s why we love to come back here. The atmosphere is so amazing.”

Caroline’s final Australian Open appearance will begin on January 20.

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI REVEALS HER FINAL MATCH WILL BE AGAINST LONG-TIME FRIEND SERENA WILLIAMS

(December 16, 2019) — After announcing last Friday that she will retire after the 2020 Australian Open, Caroline Wozniacki revealed on social media that her final match will be against close friend and long-time rival Serena Williams. The match, which is being dubbed “The Final One,” will be a one-off exhibition at the Royal Arena in Caroline’s native of Denmark. What a fitting way to go, and Caroline is certainly excited for her last match.

“It came the moment when I ended my career and I am looking forward to play my last match at home in front of such a big crowd,” Caroline said regarding her final match. “The end of my career cannot happen anywhere but at home and against the greatest player ever and my friend Serena Williams. It will be an evening I will never forget, I am sure.”

Caroline and Serena have squared off 11 times on the WTA Tour with their last meeting happening at the 2014 WTA Finals.

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI ANNOUNCES SHE WILL RETIRE FROM PROFESSIONAL TENNIS FOLLOWING AUSTRALIAN OPEN

(December 6, 2019) — 30-time WTA winner Caroline Wozniacki has announced that she will be retiring from professional tennis after the Australian open in January 2020. Wozniacki, who has been playing professionally since she was 15 years old, was a guest on Good Morning America (GMA) when she made the announcement. Caroline has accomplished so much in her career including a No. 1 ranking for 71 consecutive weeks, a Grand Slam Championship at the 2018 Australia Open, a WTA Finals victory, three Olympics, and carrying the flag for her native Denmark. With so many achievements on the court, Caroline felt it was time to move on.

“There’s so many other things I’d like to do off the court,” Caroline told GMA this morning.

What a fitting way to close out a career at the Australian Open, the same place where she won her first Grand Slam. “I love it there,” Caroline told People Magazine. “The support there for me has always been amazing.”

Caroline has dealt health issues which includes a recent diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, but states her retirement has nothing to do with her decision. The Danish star wants to go out before playing becomes stale and wants to have more time for her like outside of tennis.

“I got married to my husband [former NBA player David Lee, in June], which was amazing. We want to start a family,” Wozniacki also told People. “And I can’t wait to spend more time with my friends and family that I haven’t been able to over the past 20 years that I’ve been traveling.”

Caroline also took it to her social media with a heartfelt message. “I’ve told myself, when the time comes, that there are things away from tennis that I want to do more, then it’s time to be done. In recent months, I’ve realized that there is a lot more in life that I’d like to accomplish off the court,” Caroline said.

Caroline will leave an incredibly successful career behind, but she is ready to hang up the racket. “It felt right in my heart,” she said regarding the decision.

TWO-TIME CHINA OPEN CHAMPION CAROLINE WOZNIACKI ADVANCES TO SEMIFINALS IN 2019 EDITION

(October 7, 2019) – After winning her 30th career title and second China Open in 2018, Caroline Wozniacki had similar success in this year’s tournament before being eliminated by Naomi Osaka in the Semifinals.

Before reaching the Semifinals, Caroline picked up victories in Round of 64, Round of 32, Round of 16, and the Quarterfinals. The two-time China Open champ got off to a strong start, dropping only four games in Round of 64 against Lauren Davis. Caroline put together a streak of eight unanswered games with 16 winners and seven aces. Caroline would go on to Round of 32 where she cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Christina McHale.

“I think I played pretty aggressively today,” Wozniacki stated after the win. “I came up with some good volleys, I returned well, I changed direction well I think. Moving forward I have to keep serving well and returning well, hopefully just keep playing the way that I have.”

Up next was a showdown with Katerina Siniakova in Round of 16. Caroline prevailed with a 7-5, 6-4 win and moved on to her fifth China Open Quarterfinal, where she would face and defeat Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 7-6(5) in one hour and 41 minutes.

“I feel like I play very well here. It suits my game,” Caroline said after the match.

Trying to reach the China Open Final for the second consecutive year, Caroline came up short against Naomi Osaka in the Semifinal.This was Caroline’s deepest run in 2019 since reaching the Volvo Car Open Final in Charleston back in April.

 

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI ACCEPTED TO HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL

(September 11, 2019) – Caroline Wozniacki can add another accomplishment to her career as she has been accepted to Harvard Business School. Wozniacki took to Twitter to express her appreciation for the opportunity.

This great off-the-court accomplishment comes on top of an already impressive on-court career. Caroline has won 30 career titles, including a Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open last year.

Up next for Caroline is a trip to China where she will compete in the Wuhan Open as well as the China Open, where she is a two-time champion.

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI REACHES FIRST FINAL OF 2019 AT VOLVO CAR OPEN

(April 8, 2019) – After struggling with a viral infection that kept her out of action in February, Caroline Wozniacki returned to form and reached her first final of 2019 at the Volvo Car Open. It was also the third time Wozniacki reached the final of the Charleston, South Carolina event, winning the championship in 2011.

Prior to reaching the Final, Caroline defeated Laura Siegemund in Round of 32 (6-2, 6-2) then earned another victory over Mihaela Buzarnescu in Round of 16 (6-4, 3-6, 6-3). Caroline had momentum and followed up R32 and R16 with two consecutive straight-set victories. Wozniacki defeated Maria Sakkari (6-2, 6-2) in the quarterfinals and proceeded to get a 6-3, 6-4 win over Petra Martic in the semifinals.

“I think I served well in most of the match and I think I returned really well most of the match as well, and I just tried to stay aggressive as much as I could and tried to make her run and make her move,” Wozniacki said after her victory over Martic. “It’s been a long time since I made this long run here, so I’m just really happy to be through to the finals once again, and I’ve been feeling great this week.”

Awaiting Caroline in the final was Madison Keys, whom Wozniacki is 2-0 against head to head. Wozniacki was aiming for her second Volvo Car Open title, but would ultimately be denied by Keys who earned the 7-5(5), 6-3 victory over the Dane.
